When I moved into my house 1.5 years ago, I cleaned the cabinets, the refrigerator, the carpets, the bathrooms but somehow I forgot to clean the oven (the previous tenant wasn’t very tidy or…hygenic). When our oven started setting off the fire alarm from all the smoke it was emitting, I knew the time to clean it had come and gone and I had some making up to do. I found this pin for homemade oven cleaner and I already had everything I needed at home.

Mixing up the ingredients was easy, and dare I say, fun. Took me back to 3rd grade science. I followed the directions exactly and then got to scrubbing.

It wasn’t as tough on the grime as I thought it would be, but it did it’s best work on the glass. This took a considerable amount of elbow grease, but some of the grossness was removed. I thought I did a good job of wiping off the cleanser and rinsing the oven, but I was wrong.

The white film over the oven is the leftover cleanser. It wasn’t visible until it had dried.

The steps and materials are easy, and the mix works. If your oven is only averagely dirty you’ll be ok. If your oven is a disgusting mess like mine, maybe find something a little stronger. |
